Former Unified Grocers EVP Passes Away

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of former Unified Grocers Executive Vice President, John Smith, who passed away on December 1, 2023. John was a highly respected leader in the grocery industry, known for his unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation. During his tenure at Unified Grocers, he played a pivotal role in driving the company’s growth and success, leaving an indelible mark on the organization and its employees.

John’s career with Unified Grocers spanned over three decades, beginning in the early 1980s when he joined the company as a sales manager. His dedication and leadership skills quickly propelled him through the ranks, culminating in his appointment as Executive Vice President in 2005. Under John’s guidance, Unified Grocers expanded its market presence and achieved record-breaking sales figures, solidifying its reputation as a industry powerhouse.

A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held on December 7th at St. Matthew’s Church in Los Angeles. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John’s memory to his favorite charity, Feed America Foundation.
