4 more senior Dems call on Biden to stand down from reelection bid

Date:

Four more senior Democrats have joined the growing chorus of party members urging President Joe Biden to step aside and not seek reelection in 2024. This latest push comes as the Biden administration continues to face mounting challenges on various fronts, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, inflation, and the recent foreign policy debacle in Afghanistan.

The four Democrats — Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio, Rep. Kathleen Rice of New York, Rep. Filemon Vela of Texas, and Rep. Sean Casten of Illinois — released a joint statement calling on Biden to put the country’s interests first and not run for a second term. They cited concerns about the president’s age and declining cognitive abilities, as well as his inability to effectively address the pressing issues facing the nation.

The statement from these senior Democrats follows similar calls from other party members, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders, who have expressed doubts about Biden’s ability to lead the country for another four years. The growing discontent within the Democratic Party highlights the deep divisions and frustrations within the party over the direction of the Biden administration.

Many Democrats believe that a change in leadership is necessary to address the challenges facing the country and to regain the trust of the American people. With the midterm elections approaching, there is a sense of urgency among party members to avoid a potential electoral disaster and to ensure that the Democrats remain competitive in future elections.

It remains to be seen whether President Biden will heed the calls to step aside or if he will continue to push forward with his reelection bid. The coming months will be crucial in determining the future of the Democratic Party and whether it can unite behind a new leader who can effectively address the pressing issues facing the nation. As the 2024 election cycle heats up, the calls for change within the party are only likely to grow louder.
