In a surprise move, Volvo has announced the return of its V60 and V90 estate models to the UK market, just a year after discontinuing them. The Swedish car manufacturer has reversed its decision to focus solely on SUVs and crossovers, responding to customer demand and a shift in market trends.
The V60 and V90, known for their sleek designs, spacious interiors, and impressive cargo capacity, were previously axed from Volvo’s UK lineup in favor of the popular XC40, XC60, and XC90 SUVs. However, it appears that the company has had a change of heart, recognizing the enduring appeal of traditional estate cars.
“We listened to our customers and realized that there is still a strong demand for our estate models,” said a Volvo spokesperson. “The V60 and V90 offer a unique blend of style, practicality, and driving dynamics that resonates with many UK buyers. We’re excited to bring them back to the market.”
The reintroduced V60 and V90 models will feature the same luxurious interiors, advanced safety features, and efficient powertrains as their predecessors. The V60, a compact executive estate, will be available in a range of trim levels, including the sporty R-Design and luxurious Inscription. The V90, a larger and more premium estate, will be offered in Inscription and R-Design trims, as well as a high-performance Polestar Engineered variant.
Industry experts believe that Volvo’s decision to revive its estate models is a response to shifting consumer preferences. While SUVs and crossovers continue to dominate the market, there is a growing trend towards more traditional body styles, driven in part by concerns over environmental sustainability and urban mobility.
“Estate cars like the V60 and V90 offer a more efficient and practical alternative to larger SUVs,” said Ian Fletcher, an automotive analyst. “Volvo’s move is a savvy one, as it allows the company to tap into this growing demand and differentiate itself from competitors.”
The return of the V60 and V90 is also seen as a nod to Volvo’s heritage as a manufacturer of stylish and practical estate cars. The company’s iconic 240 and 740 models, popular in the 1980s and 1990s, helped establish Volvo as a leader in the estate car segment.
The reintroduced V60 and V90 models are expected to arrive in UK showrooms later this year, with pricing and specifications to be announced in the coming weeks. Volvo enthusiasts and estate car fans alike will be eagerly awaiting the return of these beloved models, which promise to bring a touch of Scandinavian style and sophistication to the UK’s roads once again.
