Our patronising leaders won’t be candid with the full facts. And the simmering anger and distrust is left to spiral out of control, writes DR RAKIB EHSAN

Date:

The air is thick with a simmering anger, a distrust that hangs heavy in the atmosphere. We’ve grown accustomed to the patronizing pronouncements of our leaders, their carefully crafted narratives that gloss over the harsh realities we face. This deliberate withholding of the truth, this deliberate obfuscation of facts, is a recipe for disaster.

We’re told everything is under control, that the challenges we face are temporary, easily overcome. But the truth, whispered in hushed tones, is far more complex. We see it in the rising cost of living, the erosion of our social safety nets, the growing inequalities that divide us. We see it in the hollow promises that go unfulfilled, the broken trust that festers like a wound left to fester.

Our leaders, instead of being the architects of solutions, have become masters of obfuscation. They hide behind platitudes, deflecting blame, and refusing to acknowledge the gravity of the situation. They treat us like children, unable to handle the complexities of the world, shielding us from the truth in the name of ‘stability’. But this patronizing approach is a dangerous delusion.

By shielding us from the truth, they deny us the opportunity to engage, to participate, to hold them accountable. We are left with a sense of helplessness, a growing anger at the disconnect between their words and our reality. This simmering anger, left unchecked, can easily boil over, fueling division and unrest.

The truth, however uncomfortable it may be, is the only path to real solutions. We need leaders who are willing to be candid, who are honest about the challenges we face, and who are committed to finding solutions together. We need leaders who trust us with the truth, who believe we are capable of understanding the complexities of our world.

Until then, the simmering anger and distrust will continue to spiral out of control, threatening to consume our society. It’s time to break the cycle of patronization, to demand honesty from our leaders, and to work together to build a future based on truth and transparency.
