THE BOYS Showrunner Eric Kripke On “Woke” Complaints: “Go Watch Something Else”

Date:

Eric Kripke, the showrunner of the hit series “The Boys,” has recently addressed complaints about the show being too “woke.” In a candid interview, Kripke did not hold back in expressing his views on the matter, stating emphatically that detractors should simply watch something else if they are unhappy.

Kripke’s response comes amid discussions about “The Boys,” a show known for its unapologetically satirical take on superheroes and modern society. The criticism has surfaced from a subset of viewers who feel that the show has leaned into progressive themes and ideologies, which they argue detracts from their enjoyment.

However, Kripke defended the narrative choices of the series, pointing out that the show has always been politically charged and reflective of real-world issues. According to him, the themes of corruption, power abuse, and corporate malfeasance have been central to both the comic books by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson and its screen adaptation.

“To all those people who say we’re too woke, I say go watch something else,” said Kripke firmly. He elaborated that one of the core goals of “The Boys” is to explore and critique societal and political issues in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.

“The whole point of this show is to hold a mirror up to society,” he added. “If having those reflections bothers you, then maybe you need to think about why it bothers you so much.”

Kripke also discussed how fans’ engagement with controversial topics presented in “The Boys” actually supports one of his main objectives as a storyteller: to spark conversation and challenge viewers’ perspectives. For him, it is essential to use the platform to not just entertain but also engage audiences intellectually.

Ultimately, Kripke’s message to critics is clear: If you find “The Boys” too reflective of modern societal issues for your taste, it might be better for you to look elsewhere for your entertainment fix. The series will continue its audacious approach regardless of detractors, staying true to its original vision and commitment to powerful storytelling.
