Becoming a Teacher in West Virginia

Becoming a School Principal in West Virginia
- Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in educational leadership or related field

- Certification
- Complete a state-approved educational leadership program
- Pass the Praxis Educational Leadership: Administration and Supervision test

- Apply for the Professional Administrative Certificate through the WV Department of Education

Becoming a Superintendent in West Virginia
- Education and Experience
- Master’s degree (doctorate preferred)
- Valid teaching certificate and administrative certificate
- At least three years of management or supervisory experience in education

- Complete specific graduate-level coursework in school law, finance, and leadership
- Pass the Praxis School Superintendent Assessment
