The suspect arrested at a Donald Trump rally in Ohio last week, carrying a loaded firearm and a large knife, refused to speak with federal investigators after being kept waiting for hours, according to the county sheriff.
“The FBI did interview him. I do not believe he was cooperative,” said Sheriff Jeremy Myers of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. “They brought him up to the sheriff’s office and interviewed him, but he refused to answer any questions.”
The suspect, 22-year-old Thomas DeWayne Morgan, was arrested on Friday night at the rally in Warren County. He was found to be carrying a loaded .380-caliber handgun, a large fixed-blade knife, and ammunition. Morgan’s arrest came after a tense standoff with law enforcement, where he initially refused to comply with officers’ orders.
While the FBI’s investigation into the motive behind Morgan’s actions is ongoing, the sheriff confirmed that there is no known connection between Morgan and any political groups or organizations.
“It was never found to be politically motivated,” said Myers. “There was no evidence that he was connected to any specific group or ideology.”
The lack of cooperation from Morgan has hampered the FBI’s efforts to understand the underlying motivations for his actions. It remains unclear if the suspect intended to cause harm, or if his actions were merely a reckless display of force.
As the investigation continues, the incident has raised concerns about the potential for violence at political rallies and the importance of robust security measures to ensure the safety of attendees and participants.
