Becoming a Teacher in Alabama
- Education Requirements
- Earn a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Complete a state-approved teacher preparation program
- Testing Requirements
- Pass the Alabama Educator Certification Assessment Program (AECAP) tests
- Take the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators tests
- Certification Process
- Apply for an initial teaching certificate through the Alabama State Department of Education

- Education and Experience
- Hold a master’s degree in educational administration or a related field
- Have at least three years of teaching experience

Becoming a Superintendent in Alabama
- Education and Experience
- Hold an education specialist degree or doctorate in educational leadership
- Have at least five years of educational experience, including three years in an administrative role
- Certification Requirements
- Hold a valid Alabama instructional leader certificate
- Complete additional coursework in school finance and law
