Becoming a Teacher in Wisconsin
- Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Completion of a state-approved teacher preparation program
- Testing Requirements
- Pass the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators tests (or meet exemption criteria)
- Pass the appropriate Praxis Subject Assessments for your teaching area
- Complete the edTPA performance assessment
- Application Process
- Apply for licensure through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
- Submit official transcripts, test scores, and other required documentation
- Complete a background check
- Licensure
- Obtain an Initial Educator License, valid for 3 years
- Complete the Wisconsin Educator Effectiveness System during the first years of teaching
Becoming a School Principal in Wisconsin
- Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in educational administration or leadership
- At least three years of successful, full-time teaching experience
- Certification
- Complete a state-approved principal preparation program
- Pass the Praxis Educational Leadership: Administration and Supervision test
- Application Process
- Apply for the Principal License through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
- Provide documentation of teaching experience and program completion
Becoming a Superintendent in Wisconsin
- Education and Experience
- Specialist degree or doctorate in educational administration
- Valid teaching license and principal license
- At least six years of teaching and/or administrative experience
- Certification
- Complete a state-approved superintendent preparation program
- Pass the Praxis School Superintendent Assessment
- Application Process
